Networks, servers and integrations
The network, the servers and the glue between your systems, built as one thing that works.
Professional, knowledgeable and reliable, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Rob and his services.
Rob has done an excellent job managing the server-side setup for my website, including pointing the old domains to the new site and setting up redirects to ensure existing links and Google traffic continue to reach the right place. I’m extremely pleased with the work he’s carried out. His communication has been excellent throughout, and he explains everything clearly, making even the more technical aspects easy to understand. The problem
Most small businesses end up with tech that grew rather than tech that was planned. A router from the ISP, a NAS someone bought once, Wi-Fi that drops in the back office, and backups that may or may not be happening.
Then there are the systems. The shop, the accounts, the CRM, the warehouse. Each one fine on its own, none of them talking to each other, and someone copying data between them by hand every week.
I like this kind of job. Getting all the layers working together, from the cable in the wall to the software on top, is the bit of the work I enjoy most.
What's included
- Office networks done properly: a decent firewall, Wi-Fi that reaches every corner, and guests kept separate from your business kit.
- Servers and storage: a NAS or small server for files and backups, set up and documented.
- Backups you can trust: copies in more than one place, one of them off site, and tested so we know they work.
- Secure remote access, so your team can get to what they need from home without leaving the door open.
- Integrations: linking the systems you already use, such as Shopify, Xero, FreeAgent, NetSuite or your CRM, so data only gets typed in once.
- A plain-English map of the whole thing: what's where, how it connects, and how to get back in.
Bigger software builds
Small pieces of code that glue systems together, I write myself. If you need a whole new system built, that's a job for a team, and I'll point you to Dev Partners, the software company I co-founded.
What you get at the end
A network, servers and backups that work, that are secure, and that someone has written down.
Systems that pass data between them automatically, so your team stops copying and pasting and starts trusting the numbers.
How it's priced
Every project is quoted after a look at what you have now, so you know exactly what will be done and what it will cost before any work starts. Hardware is extra and bought in your name.
I do the work myself, and the quote and invoice come from me.
Who it's for
- Small offices whose network grew by accident and now needs sorting.
- Businesses with a NAS or server and no real idea whether the backups work.
- Anyone re-typing the same data into two or three systems every week.
Questions
Do you come on site?
Yes, for network and hardware work. I'm based in Kent. Further afield, travel is charged at cost.
What kit do you use?
Whatever suits the job and the budget. Often Ubiquiti UniFi or OPNsense for networks, and Synology or a small Linux server for storage. I'll explain the options before you buy anything.
Can you work with what we already have?
Usually, yes. I'd rather reuse decent kit than sell you new. If something needs replacing, I'll tell you why.
How do I pay?
Half when you give the go-ahead, half when the work is finished.
Anything else I should know about prices?
- Retainer clients get 10% off project work and the breach rate.
- Out-of-hours emergency work is by arrangement, not a 24/7 promise.
- I'm not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add.
Tell me what you have
A rough description is fine: what kit you have, what systems you use, and what's annoying you. I'll come back with what I'd do.
